Cryptocurrency solution provider Ripple is set to welcome leading figures from the world’s of finance and technology to its Swell conference in Toronto next week where Ex-fed chairman Ben Bernanke and internet pioneer Sir Tim Berners-Lee headline.
The international banking conference will take place in Toronto Oct. 16-18, alongisde rival SWIFT’s Sibos conference. The former chairman of the Federal Reserve and the inventor of the World Wide Web will be appearing at Swell, a new conference sponsored by Ripple, the global payments company that uses blockchain technology.
“Recently our customers requested that Ripple bring together leaders in banking and blockchain who are committed to changing the way the world moves money today.Swell is attracting a roster of payments experts and industry luminaries to discuss trends, success stories of blockchain implementations and real-world blockchain use cases to meet changing customer demands for global payments,” Asheesh Birla, vice president of product for Ripple, said.
Consultancy McKinsey has alreadt described Ripple as a leading solution that leverages distributed financial technology to allow “originators to see total cost of payment and real-time tracking for low- and high-value payments”.
Writing in response to payment proposals for the Federal Reserve System’s Faster Payment Task Force, Mckinsey states that Ripple is flexible enough to be integrated directly into a financial institution’s payment hub or integrated into a third-party provider’s platforms to which financial institution is already connected.
Ripple recently announced that it has now reached 100 customers across 27 countries on RippleNet, its payments network which it says is the world’s only global blockchain solution for payments. Members include Credit Agricole, SEB and Siam Commercial. Banks on the network can send and receive money in seconds with a clear view of the costs and the exchange rate.
